The SPenC earthquake and fire drill 2026 strengthened emergency preparedness across the Southern Peninsula College community.
The activity was held on July 19, 2026, at the SPENC Multi-Purpose Covered Court in Labason, Zamboanga del Norte.
Students, faculty members, and staff joined the school-wide drill and a Disaster Risk Reduction and Management lecture on emergency response. The school’s student governing body, the Student Council for Advocacy, Leadership and Empowerment (SCALE) helped coordinate student participation across departments.
Southern Peninsula College hosted the activity in partnership with Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (MDRRMO) Labason and Bureau of Fire and Protection (BFP) R9- Labason Fire Station.
SPenC Earthquake and Fire Drill 2026 Builds Practical Skills
The activity gave participants an opportunity to practice essential emergency procedures in a controlled setting.
Participants reviewed appropriate responses during an earthquake. They also practiced organized evacuation, emergency coordination, and fire-safety procedures.
The exercises emphasized the importance of staying calm, following instructions, and moving safely during an emergency.
These practical lessons help transform written safety procedures into actions that students and personnel can understand and remember.

DRRM Lecture Strengthens Emergency Awareness
The accompanying DRRM lecture discussed disaster preparedness, risk reduction, emergency protocols, and coordinated response.
It helped participants understand why preparedness must begin before an emergency occurs.
Emergency readiness depends on awareness, regular training, clear responsibilities, and cooperation. Each member of the school community has a role in keeping others safe.
SPenC Partners with MDRRMO and BFP Labason
The activity benefited from the knowledge and practical experience of local emergency-response personnel.
The Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office of Labason is headed by Shannaleigh G. Bugarin-Laurencio, RN.
The Bureau of Fire and Protection (BFP) R9 – Labason Fire Station participated under FINSP Joel S. Sabijon, Acting Municipal Fire Marshal.
Personnel from both offices shared emergency-response guidance with the SPenC community. Their participation helped connect school safety procedures with local response practices.
The partnership also reflects a continuing community interest in disaster awareness. SPenC students previously participated in the MDRRMO Labason Quiz Bee 2026, another activity promoting disaster preparedness.
Building a Culture of Safety at SPenC
Southern Peninsula College thanks MDRRMO Labason and BFP Labason for their time, expertise, and public service.
The school also recognizes the students, faculty members, staff, and participating school organizations who supported the activity.
Safety drills do more than fulfill institutional requirements. They help people develop habits that may protect lives during actual emergencies.
Through training and community partnerships, SPenC continues to strengthen safety awareness as part of campus life at Southern Peninsula College.
